While gas prices have been going down as of late, no one wants to pay more for fuel than necessary. Here are a few easy steps you can take to get the most from every gallon.
GET A TUNE UP
A properly maintained engine operates more efficiently and is key to maximizing gas mileage. Check out your vehicle’s owner’s manual for the recommended frequency of a tune-up and stick to the schedule. You’ll not only realize cost savings in fuel, you’ll also avoid repairs that come with not having filters and fluids replaced regularly.
CHECK YOUR TIRES
Make sure your tires are inflated properly, as under-inflated tires or wheels that are not aligned waste fuel by making your engine work harder. An easy way to tell if you tires need an alignment is if you notice uneven tread wear or it refuses to go straight, pulling either right or left.
ELIMINATE EXCESS BAGGAGE
Seems rather simplistic, but carrying around less weight in your car leads to better gas mileage. Keep only essential items in the trunk and inside the car.
Rather than keeping your car running while you wait for family or friends, simply turn the car off. Not only will it help save you money, but also eliminate exhaust. A win, win.
LESS PEDAL TO THE METAL
Accelerating suddenly uses a lot of gas. Look ahead and anticipate traffic, so you can adjust your speed gradually.
DRIVE AT THE SPEED LIMIT
While you can’t drive slower than traffic or below the speed limit, exceeding the speed limit or driving at high speeds guzzles gas.
So enjoy your summer vacations and save a bit of money at the same time!
